BMW Dives Deeper into Scooter Market

Own a BMW 6 Series, X6, 3 Series...maybe a 7 Series? Consider yourself one of the lucky ones. And now, those drivers interested in feeling the wind through their hair, spending less on gas, preserving the environment and maybe even getting from Point A to Point B just a little bit faster have three more reasons to consider themselves privileged  in 2012.

  1. BMW is launching the C600.
  2. BMW is launching the C650GT Maxi-Scooter .
  3. BMW is working on an electric scooter for the ultimate zero-petrol/zero-emissions ride.

Of course, scooters are already the rage in countries overseas, such as Europe and Asian. They have been for quite some time. Here, in the U.S., however, the two-wheel driving trend has been slower to catch on. But, BMW is confident it won't take long.

The fact is drivers are more aware and concerned over fuel-prices and perhaps more importantly the negative impact bad fuel economy has on the environment than ever before. A scooter provides a nice alternative for conscientious drivers in warm-weather climates (and even climates with a few warm seasons) who still want to maintain their luxury edge.

Both the BMW C600 and C650GT Maxi-Scooter borrow design elements from the previous R1200RT and K1600GT scooter models. They've recently made appearances in Long Beach, CA and Milan, Italy. At this time, we expect both to deliver an eager 60 horsepower. Fuel economy numbers, on the other hand, have yet to be divulged.
